The French Collection – Anduze Pots & Urns

Anduze Pots & Urns From France

When your garden, courtyard or outdoor room cries for a centrepiece or soirée of visual anchors, there is nothing more compelling than the beauty and charm of authentic French Anduze pots & urns.

There’s a particular kind of magic in the gardens of southern France with their blend of sunlight, texture, and quiet elegance that feels both effortless and deeply rooted in tradition. These landscapes invite you to slow down, breathe in the scent of herbs, and notice how every element seems intentionally placed yet wonderfully natural. Winding paths, weathered stone, and the hum of cicadas create an atmosphere that feels timeless. But what truly anchors these spaces are the distinctive clay pots that have become emblematic of the region’s outdoor style.

Although now inseparable from Provence, these celebrated vessels trace their earliest origins to Medici‑era Italy, where artisans first experimented with their generous silhouettes and decorative flourishes. The style eventually travelled across the Mediterranean and found a natural home in Anduze in the South of France, where local potters adapted the form with their own glazes, motifs, and styles. Over time, they moved from village workshops into the grand gardens of aristocratic estates, becoming symbols of refinement and regional identity. Today, whether they cradle citrus trees, lavender, or simply stand as sculptural accents, they bring a sense of heritage and quiet Provençal charm to any garden, large or small.

The Classic Collection

The French Classic Collection is a gold standard for French gardens. Formal, “Château-style,” and distinctly Anduze, the French Classic Collection stands out for its form and details.

The Silhouette

It features an elegant, inverted bell shape with a sturdy, flared base. The proportions are designed to balance the weight of large citrus trees and topiary while maintaining a graceful verticality.

Garlands and Macarons

Garlands are thick, hand-pressed clay swags (festoons) that drape around the body of the pot. Decorative clay medallions give the “La Madeleine” seal.

Signatures

Each Artisan signs the inside of their pot with their name, as well as finish the Poterie de la Madeleine’s signature.

The Contemporary Collection

The French Contemporary Collection acts as a stylistic alternative that highlights the raw, architectural power of the Anduze shape through a different lens. Emphasizing form and texture, contemporary Anduze pots like Mazagran and Emma Coupe are a bold reimagining that translates the legendary classic silhouette into a more structural, tonal language. The less ornate form allows the eye to focus purely on the symmetry and curvature of the vase, turning the pot into a standalone piece of sculpture.

Harmonious Contrast

While a Classic pot blends beautifully into a lush, flowering garden, a Contemporary pot creates a striking focal point, especially when paired with structural plants like Agave, Boxwood spheres, or ornamental grasses. These pots are designed to echo the straight lines and raw materials (like glass, steel, and concrete) found in modern landscaping. And yes, we invite you to cheers your purchase with a rosé from Provence.

The Power of Tone

The Contemporary Collection moves towards deep, consistent pigments. Whether it’s a velvety matte black, a cool blue, or a luminous red, the single-tone finish highlights the play of light and shadow on the clay. Or go for the rainbow!

Collection Colours

From the glossy, high-shine signature Anduze classic, “Flammé”, with its blend of rusty oranges and vivid greens, to the matte black of a Terre Noire, there is a colour to suit your Australian home and your magical vision of a French mood. We stock colours from the full collection that we have curated to suit local tastes. If you have a different colour in mind, we warmly welcome orders.

Warm colours

From the warm tones of the classic Flamme finish, to warm yellows, browns and rusty reds, those with an earthy colour chart will find our warm colours a balm to their hearts’ desires.

Cool colours

Already chic, make your French pots cool with multiple choices of blues, purples, greens and cool yellows. Go with standard plant colours or make a statement with contrasting colours, shades and tones.

Neutral colours

There are plenty of neutral hues to tickle the grey matter of those who play it safe. Grey, greyish browns, black, white, ivory, and creams allow the form to take centre stage in your grand gardens and outdoor spaces.

Bright colours

Go for the rainbow with superbly bold pigments. Inspired by Frida Kahlo’s blue house, or Van Gogh’s yellow house? Bright colours bring dynamism and liveliness in contrast to plants, that are almost invariably shades of green or brown (hopefully not due to lack of water), save for flowering blooms.

Finishes

Are you ready to be amazed? There are a few finishes on our Anduze pots & urns that we are sure will be high on your list to consider when designing your outdoor space. Flamme, Vieilli, Ancienne, Patine, Terre, and Collared.
